When I started doing research on where I should stay in the Sacred Valley, The Casa Andina Premium immediately jumped out at me with it’s retreat like feel. This hotel is situated in the heart of the Sacred Valley in a small village of Urubamba, approximately 1.5 hours from the Cusco airport.
Upon arrival the friendly staff immediately welcomed me with a hot cocoa tea, a common natural remedy for altitude sickness in Peru. I instantly noticed that there was a self serve station for hot cocoa tea in the lobby available 24 hrs/day and thought to myself this would be a savior should I have issues with adjusting to the altitude. The main lobby was very grand with panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. I couldn’t wait to get outside and check out the grounds!
The Property
The property consists of cabin like villas surrounded with beautiful flowers and greenery. You are nestled in the middle of the valley so every which way you look you will see the Andes!
The grounds were so quiet that it gave me the feeling that I was at a spa like retreat. It was the perfect place to come back to and rest after all of the rigorous activities the next coming days would be consisting of.
There were two things that I was not expecting when I was given a tour of the property; the first was the planetarium and the second was the Alpacas that lived on site!
Planetarium
Let me first say this, I have NEVER seen a starry sky the way I did in the Sacred Valley! The light pollution in the area is so minimal that you will be in for the best stargazing of your life! To make this experience even more magical, the Casa Andina has it’s own planetarium on the grounds! It is something that you should 100% take advantage of if you are staying with them for your time in SV.
Alpacas
Obviously a trip to Peru can not be complete without seeing Alpacas and getting a picture with them. What I didn’t expect when I arrived was that Casa Andina would have two on site! They are very calm creatures so they were pretty un-phased as I approached them for a few pictures.
The Villas
The Villa I stayed in was quite large and offered views of the mountains from all sides. You could relax in the gorgeous soaking tub or take advantage of the out door shower, my personal favorite room feature.
Time Spent at Casa Andina
After coming back from my day trips to the surrounding areas, I spent most of my down time relaxing and sipping cocoa tea while taking in the mountain views in the courtyard. Casa Andina is a true retreat that I would recommend to anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of the Sacred Valley!
