Mystique Holbox is one of the top boutique hotels on Isla Holbox. This luxury beachfront property provides all of the comforts and luxuries that you’d expect from a 5 star stay while exploring Isla Holbox, one of Mexico’s best kept secrets. One thing that I loved about Mystique Holbox is that it’s situated away from all of the hustle and bustle of the island, making it feel even more exclusive and optimal for the privacy of their guests.
The Suites
Each Suite is beautifully styled with an organic and beachy vibe that leans heavily to a natural eco-inspired design. I personally stayed in the Junior Deluxe Suite with a jungle view. This room was bright and airy, had a King bed and it also came with a desk! This was a workcation for me so I loved that I had a dedicated workspace to plug into. The balcony had a fun egg shaped swing chair to relax in along with a patio table. I had a coffee on the balcony pretty much every day!
Each suite option has a safe, mini bar, and complimentary wifi. If you are looking for something beyond the Junior Deluxe Suite, consider Mystique’s Presidential Ocean Front Suite which comes with a bedroom, living room, bar, a larger terrace, and even a loft.
The Amenities & Experience
The expansive pool that overlooks the ocean was what originally drew me to this boutique property, but while on my stay I realized that it was the overall service available that made Mystique Holbox so special. Bikes are available for their guests to take into town, beachside massages and facials are available, you can be spoiled with bar service right at your personal beach lounge, along with round the clock concierge service and dry cleaning. There is also a gym available onsite so that you can keep up with your routine even while in paradise. The staff was so kind and hospitable making the stay feel very warm and welcoming from start to end!
Dining
Fresco Bar and Grill is the on-site restaurant at Mystique Holbox. This restaurant’s design has a very luxurious yet calming feel. You can dine here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Start your day off with traditional Mexican dishes such as huevos rancheros, or opt for healthy smoothies like I did. The lunch and dinner menus offer lots of seafood, traditional Mexican, and pasta options as well. The drinks were also such a stand out! If fruity beachy cocktails are your thing, then you will LOVE the drink menu that Mystique Holbox has put together. So many fresh fruit combos to choose from while you sip and enjoy this paradise that is Isla Holbox! During lunch service, if you prefer to have your lunch beachside while you lounge in the sun the staff will also serve you at the beach.
The nature inspired design of this space allows you to enjoy your meal while you view and smell the ocean air. For dinner they will even expand the dining area to the sand and hang string lights to dine under the stars.
If you are visiting Holbox for a special occasion or romantic getaway you can also work with the hotel concierge to arrange a romantic dinner for two on Mystique’s private beach! They will set up a table for two right next to the ocean with a very boho aesthetic and plenty of candle lights in a heart shape around the table for you and your special someone to enjoy. I watched as the staff put this together for a couple celebrating an anniversary and it was truly beautiful!
Activities
Isla Holbox is located within the protected Yum Balam nature reserve. Many visitors come to Isla Holbox each year to experience the aquatic and nature based experiences that can only be had with Isla Holbox being your base. If you are one of those travelers looking for a little more than just relaxing on the beach while enjoying a lobster pizza then allow Mystique Holbox staff to help coordinate your adventures!
This is always recommended for safety reasons too because the tour guides they are working with are vetted and trusted! Although I didn’t personally go on any of the day trips offered, the ones that sounded the most fun to me were the visit to bioluminescent bay, day trip to Isla Pajaro for exotic bird watching, and deep sea fishing.
