If you are visiting Cartagena, a walk through Getsemani is an absolute must! Getsemani has to be one of the coolest neighborhoods I’ve ever wandered through. This lively bohemian neighborhood adorned with vibrant graffiti, colorful installations hang over the side streets, and it’s also home to some of the trendiest restaurants in Cartagena .
Getsemani is only a 10 minute stroll from the walled city. Make your way over to Calle 29 as a starting point for your self guided walking tour of Getsemani! You’ll be greeted by the hanging flags display and a vibrant fruit cart which Getsemani is also know for.
Follow Calle 29 all the way through while enjoying the street art, both new and old. It will eventually lead you to Holy Trinity Square, the center point of the Getsemani Neighborhood! Here you will find some of the most popular wall art displays.
While at the Holy Trinity Square enjoy a fruit cup from one of the street vendors, or grab a drink at either Demente or on the balcony of La Palanqueras restaurant’s balcony and people watch!
From here I would recommend heading over to the famous Getsemani umbrella display. Located just 3 minutes from the Holy Trinity Square at Cl. 27. The street with the hanging umbrellas was very narrow. I found myself among the locals here who were taking a break in the shade, with kids running around playing with their footballs and toys.
For the rest of your time in Getsemani, get lost! Wander as many side streets as you can and enjoy all of the beautiful artwork that this hip little neighborhood has to offer.
As I was getting lost in the streets myself I got to watch a new mural in the process of being created. I can’t wait to go back someday and see the finished work of art!
